ACO Expands KerbDrain Range for High Impact Performance

To support highways contractors and engineers with meeting high load requirements, ACO Water Management has expanded its KerbDrain offering with the launch of the E Class range.

Designed for surroundings where high impact is more likely, the new range includes the E and E+ units. Both channels serve as combined drainage and kerb systems for continuous interception of surface water flows, as well as rapid collection of contaminated liquids. A versatile solution, KerbDrain E Class can be implemented in both SuDS schemes and traditional drainage systems.

KerbDrain E channels are available in unit depths of 305mm or 480mm, and are ideal for medium size catchment areas such as urban highways or parking areas. For particularly demanding projects, the E+ range is hydraulically bigger with 370mm or 480mm depth measurements. This provides a higher capacity for large catchment areas like distribution yards.

Fully certified to Load Class E 600, its one-piece design is proven to offer 50% higher impact resistance than traditional Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC) concrete kerbs.  As such, KerbDrain E Class is suited to areas that are subject to large numbers of high-speed, heavy-goods vehicles - in line with National Highways requirements.

Michelle Osborne, Product Manager Civils at ACO Technologies, said: “Standing water is a road hazard that needs to be properly treated in all urban infrastructure. With KerbDrain, projects can have an innovative drainage solution in place to create safer environments while avoiding the cost of installing separate kerbs and drainage solutions.

“Its high load rating also means it can withstand the day-to-day knocks and impacts from HGVs that are typically seen on big roundabouts, dual carriageways and major A roads. This means there’s less ongoing maintenance, reducing the budget required for repairs and replacement.”

Manufactured from ACO’s high strength and sustainable material, Vienite®, KerbDrain E Class not only brings added sustainable credentials, but is also a lightweight system. Additionally, the one-piece design simplifies installation without reducing capacity.

Various gully options are also available, and can be used to transition between E and E+ units, as well as the existing KerbDrain D solution for D 400 applications.

“At ACO, we recognise the importance of having comprehensive solutions, so we are really pleased to be able to expand our offerings with the latest E Class range,” said Osborne. “With our popular KerbDrain D solution as well, engineers and designers can now benefit from even greater design choice to ensure the right application for specific project requirements.”
