Where Can ACO HexDrain be installed?
HexDrain is suitable for multiple domestic applications, for example:Patios, Paths, Courtyards, Thresholds and Perimeters, and Pedestrian Areas.
Can the ACO HexDrain channel be cut to size, and if so, can the channel sections be clipped back together after cutting?
Yes, the channel can be cut; however, doing so will remove the integrated clips that hold the channels together. This should be taken into consideration when planning the installation.
How should the channels be connected after the HexDrain has been cut to size?
After cutting a HexDrain channel, the pieces will no longer clip together. You can reconnect or terminate them by:
Using an end cap where the structure still allows attachment, or
Gluing/sealing the joint with a strong exterior-grade adhesive or silicone sealant to create a stable bond at the joint.
Can the outlet be connected directly to the channel?
Yes, the outlet can be connected directly; however, the outlet will not be accessible by hand for cleaning once installed.
Can Load Class B125 gratings be used with HexDrain channels?
Yes, B125 gratings can be fitted to HexDrain channels; however, the overall load rating of the system will remain Class A15, as determined by the channel body.
What is the invert level of the HexDrain Sump?
The invert level of the HexDrain Sump is approximately 234 mm.
What HexDrain accessories are available?
There are a wide range of accessories suitable for use with HexDrain, including a corner unit, sump unit, outlet connector, end cap, leaf guard, downpipe connector and a choice of plastic and galvanised replacement gratings. Most accessories are manufactured from recycled polypropylene (black plastic) and connect as part of the modular system.
What is the HexDrain Sump Unit used for?
The HexDrain Sump Unit functions as a debris‑collection chamber that traps silt, leaves, and other particles to prevent blockages in underground pipework, and it can be installed with either the corner unit or the outlet connector to act as a catch pit or provide a horizontal outlet to a 110 mm PVC‑U pipe. The sump also support easy maintenance of the drainage system - By collecting debris in a single accessible chamber, the sump makes it easy to maintain the system—simply remove the cover and clean out the chamber periodically.
What is the HexDrain Corner Unit used for?
The HexDrain Corner Unit has several uses, to change the direction of the run by 90°, to form a T-junction, to connect to a rainwater downpipe or as an outlet connection to a 110 mm underground PVC-U pipe.
What is in the Accessory Bag?
The HexDrain Accessory Bag (19287) consists of the items shown in bold. For further information regarding the use of the outlet connector please see the question above “What is the Sump Unit used for?” in addition to providing a connection to the sump unit you could connect 110mm diameter PVC-U vertically directly onto the outlet connector.
ACO would always recommend using End Caps at either end of a channel run unless a corner unit has been installed, the end caps are reversible and one side fits onto HexDrain while the other side fits onto RainDrain, some modification of the end cap is required but details are stamped clearly onto the end cap. To provide a watertight seal ACO would recommend securing the end cap using an appropriate sealant, then backfilling against the outside of the end cap with concrete.
The leaf guard is designed to be installed into your selected outlet point in the base of the channel, the leaf guard simply pushes into place and prevents any larger debris from entering your outlet pipe or sump unit and causing a blockage. Any debris caught by the leaf guard can easily be removed by hand after removing the grating to access the channel.
What is the Downpipe Connectors used for?
ACO offer two downpipe connectors designed to be used in conjunction with the HexDrain corner unit.
To form a neat and aesthetically pleasing connection between a downpipe and the corner unit simply remove the grating from the corner unit and replace with the required size of downpipe connector, the downpipe then simply fits into the top of the connector.
Downpipe Connectors are manufactured from polymer concrete and are only available in a black finish.
